Doctors Group Announces Prescription Assistance Program

A free discount card offered by the state’s largest association of physicians is now available for patients who need help with costs of prescription drugs.

The Illinois State Medical Society, IMSA, announced it will distribute the Illinois Rx Card, which helps uninsured and under-insured residents afford prescription medications. The discount card provides savings of up to 75 percent on prescriptions at more than 68,000 pharmacies nationwide. The resource has already saved residents more than $171 million.

“Illinois State Medical Society physicians are committed to providing the best possible care to their patients, and medication prices have risen over 200 percent in the last decade,” said Dr. Katherine M. Tynus, the ISMS President.

Patients can print the Illinois Rx Card, search drug pricing and locate participating pharmacies at www.illinoisrxcard.com.

The cards will assist patients whose health insurance does not include prescription benefits, while those who do have prescription coverage can get discounts on medications not covered by their insurance plans. All Illinois residents are eligible.
