(Chicago, IL) - Patients who need help with the cost of prescription medications can now get a complimentary discount card from the state's largest association of physicians.

The Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) announced plans to distribute the Illinois Rx Card, a discount prescription medication card to all Illinois residents.

The discount card generates savings of up to 75 percent on prescription drugs at more than 68,000 pharmacies nationwide.

Illinois Rx Card helps uninsured and under-insured residents afford prescription medications.

This resource has already saved Illinois residents more than $171 Million since inception.

"Illinois State Medical Society physicians are committed to providing the best possible care to their patients, and medication prices have risen over 200% in the last decade," said ISMS President Katherine M Tynus, M.D.

"Illinois Rx Card can help make some prescriptions more affordable, and that's why we are making the card available to our member physicians for sharing with their patients," she added.

Illinois Rx Card discounts are available to patients whose health insurance coverage does not include prescription benefits.

Those who do have prescription coverage with their health insurance can use this program to get discounts on medications that are not covered by their insurance plan.

All Illinois residents are eligible regardless of their current prescription coverage benefits.

Illinois residents can print a discount card, search drug pricing, and locate participating pharmacies at www.illinoisrxcard.com.
